Poverty & Hunger
Arid landscapes, limited natural resources, and remoteness make mountain areas very susceptible to poverty and hunger. Mountain communities have been thriving for centuries through their extensive knowledge about the areas in which they live. But global processes, such as climate change, tourism, and natural resource extraction, are impinging on their ability to sustain their livelihoods.
The Mountain Fund is working to limit the effects of poverty on mountain communities, and especially children. Simple initiatives go a long way. One hot meal a day can mean the difference between a lively childhood and chronic malnutrition. By reducing financial and nutritional insecurity, The Mountain Fund has been able to aid families in pursuing happier and more dynamic lives.
