Why

Why This Project Matters:

This monastery is a unique piece of history and culture. Situated a few miles from the border with Tibet, this isolated monastery represents a way of life that is rapidly disappearing in both Nepal and Tibet as more and more monasteries like this are abandoned and left to fall into disrepair and ultimately vanish. This represents such a unique and beautiful example of Tibetan Buddhism, and the culture of the area, that it's loss would be a real tragedy. This nearly happened, but now thanks to some dedicated local people we are beginning to restore and preserve the history and culture this unique place represents.

More Info

More Information About This Project:

The village of Thulo Syabru still uses this monastery for many ceremonies that have been host to a number of well-known Rinpoche’s in from this part of Nepal. The village plans to add some guest rooms and kitchen so that visitors can stay here and help protect and preserve the statues and holy books. We also plan to build a protective stone wall around the property to keep vandals out who have stolen and tried to steal statues and holy books, all hand written in Tibetan, from the monastery.
